If your child has been absent from school, please complete this form before they return: KNS Absence Form
We are delighted that the school building has reopened! We know that everybody worked really hard last year, but it just wasn't the same as being in school.
The CoViD19 pandemic has not gone away, so we have altered how we do things, in an effort to keep everybody happy, healthy, and safe. These changes were guided by the Interim HPSC Guidelines, the Roadmap for Reopening Schools, the DES Covid-19 Response Plan, and other documents issued by the Dept of Education & Skills.
If your child is unwell, please refer to this guide when deciding the most appropriate course of action. If in any doubt, you should contact your GP.
Our School
SN Cill Cae, usually referred to as Kilkea National School, is located in the historic village of Kilkea, between Athy & Castledermot. Nearby Kilkea Castle was the seat of the Fitzgerald clan - Earls of Kildare and Dukes of Leinster - for over 700 years.
School History
Kilkea N.S. was originally founded in 1834 in the old schoolhouse
(now Mrs. Doyle’s house). In 1950, the children moved up the road
to a new two-classroom school. That building underwent
reconstruction in June 2008. The completion of works on our new school, including an extension, took place in June 2009.
