Welcome!

Kilkea National School (formally Scoil Náisiúnta Cill Cae) is a three-classroom school nestled in the beautiful south Kildare countryside. Originally founded in 1863 in the old schoolhouse, the children moved up the road to a new two-classroom school in 1950. The completion of works, including an extension, in June 2009 saw the school building expand to a 3-classroom building with GP Hall.

Nearby Kilkea Castle was the seat of the Fitzgerald clan - Earls of Kildare and Dukes of Leinster -  for over 700 years.

Cross Country

Well done to all of the children who have been training for the Cumann na mBunscol Cross Country which took place in Rathcoffey GAA on March, 21st.

The children did a fantastic job representing the school and showed true determination in their run. All pupils should be very proud of their efforts. This was our first time to participate in the Cross Country event and we really look forward to participating in future events.  Thank you to Ms. Kelly for her help with training for this event.

First Reconciliation

Well done to the children in 2nd class for making their First Reconciliation.

They look forward to the next step in their faith journey on May 18th when they make their First Holy Communion.

Tennis Lessons

We are delighted to welcome Gary from Athy Tennis Club to help the children learn and develop their tennis skills.

The children are really enjoying the challenges and activities he has organised for each lesson.

Peace Proms

The children from 3rd - 6th class participated in Peace Proms on March, 2nd. Peace Proms took place in Waterford where the children performed alongside a fabulous orchestra. It was an amazing experience and they did an excellent job, while having lots of fun! Well done to all the children for taking part.

Science Blast, RDS, March 4th!

Inspired by the rotting rubbish around us, 5th and 6th class chose to investigate ‘Rotten Rubbish’, and they posed the question: Which waste materials decompose the fastest? The children’s aim was to educate themselves and others about how materials break down and encourage others not to litter and to dispose of waste responsibly. They got wonderful feedback from the judges on their project. Well done to all involved. It proved to be a great success.

Run a Day is back!

Children are taking part in a walk, jog or run a day to get moving and fit. Amber Flag have organised a 'Runaday' for all classes to take part in. It is great to hear the children encourage each other as they move and challenge themselves to run further every day. Running miles with lots of smiles.

Children from 3rd-6th class are also training for our school Cross Country team with Ms. Kelly after school. It is fantastic to see fitness levels improving and children feeling proud of themselves.

Keep up the great work!

Cumann na mBunscol

We are very proud of our senior football team which is made up of pupils from Levitstown, Ballyroe and Kilkea schools. They have shown great skill and team work for every game and went on to win the final in their division. It is fantastic to see so many children getting involved in sport. Thank you to all involved.

County debating champions!

Our incredible debating team are now county champions after their recent win in the Kildare debating final, which took place in Kildare Education Centre. They have grown in confidence with every debate and we are so proud of them.
