Incredible Edibles & Innocent Big Grow

On March 23rd 2021, all the children in Room 1 planted a variety of fruits and vegetables under the guidance of Ms Deegan and Mr Plúincéid.

The children planted lots of seeds including chives, salad leaves, strawberries, potatoes, radishes, lettuce, spinach, turnip, carrots and even some wild flowers.

They really enjoyed getting their hands dirty.

On April 12th, we took some photos of our plants and their progress! The children were delighted to see how much they had grown in just three weeks!

Incredible Edibles is a healthy eating & horticultural growing initiative that aims to:

  • educate students about growing fruit and vegetables

  • increase awareness of food origin and quality

  • highlight the important role that fresh, Irish produce plays in a healthy balanced diet

  • communicate the health benefits of consuming at least five to seven portions of fruit and vegetables every day, to help prevent obesity.

The Innocent Big Grow is a project designed to encourage pupils to grow their own food in primary school (and at home!)
